Students must attend tutoring if there is any concern towards grades or student performance. Grades are never discussed during class time. We are only allotted two 45 minute windows for instruction during live sessions for Virtual Learning. If a student sees an error or does not understand why they made the grade they received, they must ask me in Verge Chat. This greatly limits classroom learning disruptions. Points will be returned to students if an error is found. In most cases, points are missed because students failed to label their work correctly.
Any student that has not attended tutoring has not attempted every route to correct the errors discussed on classwork, homework, labs, or quizzes.
My tutoring hours are Wednesday by appointment only. During Virtual Learning Wednesdays are for tutoring, IEP Meetings, 504 Meetings, parent conferences, ect. I will be very busy and will have to schedule tutoring. Please let me know you want a tutoring session 24 hours in advance and I will set up a time for us to meet via Teams. Any student that has not come to a tutoring session, does not qualify for extra credit.
Remediation on past assignments is not guaranteed; however, tutoring participation will guarantee the student does not make the same errors on assignments in the future and will give the student one-on-one time with the teacher to determine learning deficits.
The format given for past labs must be followed. This allows me to assess the students ability to follow instructions. In AP Courses and College, students will be given specfic parameters that they must follow. They will practice their ability to follow directions and use the format listed in class and on the rubric. This will assess their written and auditory skills.
Format for the lab reports has been discussed throughly and must be followed if students wish to earn a 100% on the Rubrics Tab. Labs are also graded for accuracy to assess if the students understand the purpose of the lab. Students do the data collection and experiment in class. They then must write their reports at home.
The following mirrors the discussions we have had in class about lab reports and during tutoring sessions. Examples of reports have been discussed and placed on the projector. Students have also graded a lab report.
Lab Reports are for FACE to FACE instruction only.
Students who attend tutoring get help with the following areas on lab reports:
Data: This section contains at least one graph or chart describing the data collected during class. This section should include a small caption (2-3 sentences) explaining what the reader sees in the graphic supplied in the report. Data is correct if the reader can skip to this section and determine objectives by looking at the charts/graphs. If you can not look at your chart and see all your objectives, then you need to revise your chart. Be certan your objectives represent the overall purpose of the lab. You will usually have 1 to 2 objectives for each report.
Results sections should have NO opinion and address all data given that is pertinent to the lab. Student's should be discussing their graphs and charts in written form in this section and explain the outcome of the experiment by stating the answer to the overall purpose of the lab as this should be seen in the data section.
Conclusions summarize how your results support or contradict your original hypothesis. Include key facts from your data section to support your claims and answer the overall purpose of the lab.
